About the Executive Office of the General Convention

The Executive Office of the General Convention is the administrative and service center for the governance of The Episcopal Church, supporting the work of the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops and their presiding and other officers. In particular this office is responsible for the coordination, production, and record of actions of the triennial gathering of The Episcopal Church’s governing body, known as the General Convention, with more than 10,000 people attending.

Between conventions, it is responsible for the convening, coordinating and recording of the actions of the Executive Council, the interim governing body. The office also administers the work of the Interim Bodies (Commissions, Committees, Agencies, Boards and Task Forces) of the General Convention, including liaison relationships, travel, meeting logistics, and other support tasks as well as certain meetings of the Bishops of The Episcopal Church.

This office supports the work of the Executive Officer of the General Convention in the officer's various roles including Secretary of General Convention, Registrar of General Convention (including consecration of bishops), Secretary of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society and the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, and as a member of the Executive Oversight Group of The Episcopal Church Center. The Executive Office of the General Convention is also where the offices of the President of the House of Deputies and staff are maintained and supported. The Executive Office of the General Convention includes the function of the Secretary and the Treasurer of the General Convention and those of the Manager of General Convention. These persons serve under the general supervision of the Executive Officer of the General Convention (Canon I.1.13).
